- Lower-pressure tooling can reduce mold cost, while long heating and cooling cycles affect unit economics.
- Inspection focus
- Check wall distribution, internal porosity, cure, warpage, inserts, threads and leak performance.
- Compare against
- Compare with blow molding for higher-volume containers and thermoforming when an open shell or joined assembly is acceptable.
Product Description
When manufacturing large, durable, and seamless hollow parts, rotational molding (rotomolding) stands out as one of the most reliable and cost-effective solutions. Our advanced rotational molding services utilize proven plastic rotational molding processes to produce high-quality products with excellent structural integrity and uniform wall thickness.
Powered by modern rotational molding machines, we deliver scalable plastic processing solutions for industrial, commercial, and outdoor applications.
How Rotational Molding Works
Our process follows a specialized plastic forming process:
Plastic powder loaded into mold → Mold rotates on multiple axes → Heated evenly → Material coats the mold interior → Cooling → Finished product
During this plastic rotational molding process, the mold rotates continuously while being heated, allowing the material to distribute evenly across the داخلی surface. This results in:
- Consistent wall thickness
- Seamless, one-piece construction
- No internal stress
Unlike other plastic molding processes, rotational molding does not rely on high pressure, making it ideal for large hollow products.

FAQ: Rotational Molding Services for Large Hollow Plastic Products
What is rotational molding and why is it used for large hollow parts?
Rotational molding places plastic powder into a mold, which is heated and rotated biaxially in an oven. The resin melts and coats the inside surface of the mold. Because the process uses no injection pressure, tooling cost is low and molds can be made from aluminum, which is economical for large, complex hollow shapes like tanks and playground equipment.
What is the typical wall thickness range for rotomolded parts?
Wall thickness ranges from about 3 mm to over 25 mm. Wall uniformity depends on rotation speed, oven temperature profile, and part geometry. Areas of the mold that heat unevenly require process tuning to achieve consistent wall distribution.
How does rotomolding tooling cost compare to blow molding or injection molding for large parts?
Rotomolding tooling for a 500-liter tank can cost 80–95% less than injection mold tooling for the same shape, primarily because molds are unpressurized and made from aluminum or fabricated steel. This makes rotomolding attractive for large hollow parts even at moderate production volumes.
Which materials are available for rotomolding?
Linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) is by far the most common material due to its toughness, UV stabilization options, and wide rotomolding processing window. PP, nylon, PC, and PVC plastisol are also processed. Material must be in powder form.
Can rotomolded parts include inserts, threads, or mounting features?
Yes. Threaded inserts, flanges, and alignment features can be molded in by including them as part of the mold cavity or as removable cores. Post-mold drilling, routing, and welding are also used to add fittings, hatches, and connection points.
