Extrusion blow molding (EBM) extrudes a hollow parison that is expanded into the mold; it handles larger, more complex shapes and is common for industrial containers. Injection blow molding (IBM) injects a preform that is then blown; it produces more precise neck threads and is preferred for small cosmetic containers.
Wall thickness varies across the container due to the blow ratio. Typical finished walls range from 0.5 mm to 3 mm for consumer bottles, and up to 6 mm or more for industrial drums. We review container geometry during DFM to guide wall distribution.
Yes. Color is added via masterbatch. Custom shapes require custom tooling, which is typically lower cost than injection mold tooling for comparable volumes. Complex shapes with undercuts, handles, or multiple pinch areas require design review to confirm clean demolding.
HDPE is the most common choice for industrial containers due to chemical resistance and impact toughness. PET is standard for beverage bottles. PP, LDPE, PVC, and multilayer EVOH barrier structures are available for specialized packaging needs.
Standard tests include drop impact at specified fill weight, top load compression, leak testing, and dimensional inspection of neck thread and critical sealing surfaces. For food-contact applications, material compliance documentation is also required.
