Technical fit for CNC plastic turning
Use this capability summary to decide whether the process fits the part before discussing tooling, lead time or price.
- Best fit
- Round plastic parts, bushings, rollers and concentric features produced efficiently from rod or tube stock.
- Design focus
- Workholding, slenderness, internal bores, wall stiffness, tool pressure and thermal expansion affect concentricity.
- Material direction
- Stock-shape stability, residual stress, moisture and softness change speeds, feeds and achievable finish.
- Volume and cost logic
- Bar size, setup, cycle, material yield and secondary milling or drilling determine part cost.
- Inspection focus
- Inspect diameters, runout, concentricity, length, thread fit, burrs and surface condition.
- Compare against
- Compare turning with milling for prismatic geometry and molding when repeat volume justifies tooling.
Product Description
Our CNC plastic turning service manufactures custom round plastic components such as bushings, sleeves, spacers, rollers, threaded parts and precision cylindrical components.
Turning is suitable for plastic rods and tubes that require accurate diameters, grooves, shoulders, internal holes, threads and smooth rotational surfaces.
Manufacturing Capabilities
| Process | CNC turning, boring, threading, grooving, facing and part-off operations |
| Materials | POM, PTFE, nylon, PEEK, PVC, PP, PE, UHMW-PE, acrylic and PC |
| Part types | Bushings, washers, rollers, spacers, sleeves, plugs, caps and custom turned parts |
| Secondary work | Drilling, tapping, milling flats, deburring and polishing |
Materials and Options
- POM for stable bushings and mechanical sleeves.
- PTFE for low-friction and chemical-resistant turned parts.
- PEEK for demanding temperature and strength requirements.
- Nylon for wear-resistant rollers and spacers.
- PVC, PP and PE for corrosion-resistant components.
Typical Applications
CNC turned plastic components are used in pumps, valves, conveyors, instruments, electrical insulation, packaging machinery, medical equipment and custom mechanical assemblies.
Example Project
A customer needed PTFE sleeves with consistent inner diameter and smooth sealing surfaces. We controlled tool sharpness, feed rate and clamping pressure to reduce deformation, then inspected inner and outer diameters before shipment.
Quality Control
- Drawing and requirement review before production.
- First article inspection before batch work.
- Dimensional checks for critical features and assembly areas.
- Appearance inspection for surface defects, color variation and processing marks.
- Protective packaging and final confirmation before shipment.
What We Need for a Quote
Please send 3D files, 2D drawings, material requirements, quantity, target tolerance, surface finish, color, application environment and any inspection standard. If the design is still early, we can help compare process options before production.
FAQ
Can plastic parts be threaded on a lathe?
Yes. We can machine internal or external threads when the material and wall thickness are suitable.
How do you avoid deformation during turning?
We reduce clamping pressure, use sharp tools, select suitable feed rates and inspect dimensions after the part relaxes.
Can you combine turning and milling?
Yes. Turned parts can also receive cross holes, flats, slots or milled features when required.
